Morris-Turnberry declines invitation to amalgamation meeting

The mayor of Morris-Turnberry says the municipality has no interest in amalgamating with the Township of North Huron.

Jamie Heffer was responding to suggestions by North Huron Reeve Bernie Bailey that the two municipalities should come together as one, noting that while Morris-Turnberry wants to continue a working relationship with North Huron, council has "no interest in discussions about amalgamation".

Bailey called for the amalgamation of North Huron and Morris-Turnberry in a speech following his inauguration this week, noting "We have the infrastructure, and they have the land".

He suggested the two councils come together to "have an honest, complete talk about where we can go with this so all of our constituents can benefit".
