Southgate opts out of cannabis retail sales

Southgate has rejected the retail sale of cannabis.

Council heard a number of concerns Wednesday, including the prospect of edibles getting into schools, the 150-meter school buffer being too small, problems with enforcement, and the use of cannabis in public places.

Southgate can always opt-in to retail sales at a later date, but will miss out on some provincial money by not doing so before January 22.

Council wants more time for public consultation and to consider more strict regulations tailored specifically to Southgate.
