Snow and freezing rain may greet portions of Midwestern Ontario on the first day of the new year.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Bruce Peninsula, including Tobermory and Sauble Beach, for New Year's Eve into New Year's Day. The statement also covers northern Grey County and Owen Sound.

The weather agency says snow is in the forecast for portions of central and eastern Ontario Monday, with 10 to 20 centimetres of accumulation possible by Tuesday morning. Freezing rain may also be mixed in.

Hazardous road conditions are possible for New Year's Eve. Those who are going out to celebrate should exercise caution on the roads.
