Employers survey to help with hiring challenges

With a continuing chronic workers shortage in Perth, Huron, Grey, and Bruce Counties,   the Labour Market Planning Board is encouraging participation in the Employer One survey.

Local employers can share their hiring challenges before January 31st, to help create solutions.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board wants to learn more about projected vacancies, hiring intentions and recruitment strategies.

Information from the last four years has been used to secure major funding for projects that help grow the local workforce. These include Manufacturing and Hospitality and Tourism employment readiness training programs. There are also local economic development and educational initiatives throughout the region.

A recent employee survey found 20 per cent of local workers under age 29 are unemployed and 17 per cent of middle-aged workers are unemployed. Workers would like a job where they are treated with respect, have positive relationships, and find personal satisfaction. Most workers say pay, hours, and the chance to use their skills are the most important thing as they look for work. And workers say harassment, unpredictable schedules and pay were among reasons they left a job.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
