Suspect charged in death of Brockton man

A 57-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Brockton resident.

Ontario Provincial Police in South Bruce say they were called to a home on Concession Rd. 4 East Brant in Brockton around 2 p.m. Friday, on a report of an injured man. The victim, identified by police as Steven Berfelz, 53, did not have vital signs when police and Bruce County Paramedic Services arrived on scene. He was rushed to a local hospital and pronounced dead soon later.

On Saturday, OPP arrested Ronald Seifried of West Grey Township and charged him with second-degree murder. He appeared via video in the Ontario Court of Justice in London and will appear on Monday in a Walkerton court.

This charge has yet to be proven in court.

No additional details have been disclosed, but the investigation continues with the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, member of the South Bruce OPP crime unit, the OPP emergency response team, OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Forensic Identification Services.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
