Bluewater council ready to give BFIT a higher profile

Members of the Bayfield Facility Initiative Team got a few surprises Monday night.

The consultant's report on the feasibility study for the Bayfield Arena was presented to Bluewater council.

The report stated that the municipality did not need three ice surfaces, but noted that it was clear that's what the community wanted.

The first recommendation to council was that the municipality begins to negotiate an agreement with BFIT to have them take over the operation of the Bayfield Arena.

BFIT spokesperson Sandy Scotchmer said the second surprise was that council passed that motion right away. She expected council would want more time to consider the recommendation.

"It was a wonderful report. To think that you would actually get a recommendation that recommends that they start putting money away for a facility, to dialogue with BFIT."

Scotchmer says the real work is just beginning and they'll sit down soon with staff and work out an agreement.
