New childcare centre and library branch for Monkton

A new project was announced at North Perth Council Monday night.

Clerk Pat Berfeltz revealed that a new EarlyON/Family Grouping child care centre is coming to Monkton.

“It’s going to be an addition to the Elma-Logan Recreation Complex to include an EarlyON room, a family grouping centre for children ages 0-12 years, as well as incorporate revisions for the Monkton Library," said Berfeltz.

Berfeltz said the money for the project has already been set aside.

“We have money that has been allocated from the City of Stratford for the construction of the EarlyON centre as well as the childcare centre," said Berfeltz. "There was a previous budget for the Monkton Library, and we’re presently working with the architect to do some drawings.”

After the drawings are given to council for consideration, Berfeltz said the municipality, as well as the City of Stratford, want them to get work underway as soon as possible.

North Perth Library CEO Rebbeca Dechert Sage said the opportunity to include the library branch in the new addition is a big benefit.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to have the Monkton Library involved in this hub. It truly will become a hub for the community of Monkton when you consider all the other services that are available on that campus or nearby," she said. "Even a visit to the mailbox can now be tied with a trip to a lot of other services.”
