UPDATE: $2M fire destroys business near Zurich

Updated at 9:30 p.m.:

A late afternoon fire Wednesday destroyed the Glavin Coating and Refinishing plant east of Zurich.

Officials determine $2 million worth of damage was done to the business at the intersection of Parr Line and the Zurich Hensall Rd.

Bluewater Fire Chief Dave Renner says a secretary noticed smoke and then flames around 5 p.m. as she was getting ready to go home. "She went to the back, saw the smoke, some fire and called it in," said Renner. "We were here fairly quickly and it was through the roof at that time. It went very, very quickly. A total loss.”

Fire departments from throughout the south end of the county responded. “We had all of Hensall here, all of Zurich here, two trucks from Brucefield, one truck from Bayfield, and we had two trucks from Exeter along with two trucks from Dashwood," said Renner.

At this point fire officials are still trying to determine how the fire started. There are no injuries reported.
