Huron County starts budget talks

Huron County's Treasurer says they are in the early stages of budget talks,  but the starting point is a 3.75 per cent increase on the levy.

Michael Blumhagen says that translates into about $1.5 million,  but he adds the county has also experienced a tax growth of about $137 million.

“So that actually helps to offset some of the burden on the ratepayers in Huron County," said Blumhagen.    "So if we were to pass the budget today at that 3.75 per cent, which again is just a draft, we would actually see a tax rate decrease of 2.98 per cent.”

Blumhagen cautions they just started hearing staff reports this week so there's still a long way to go.
