Huron-Bruce riding not under municipal review

With the announcement this week that the provincial government is conducting municipal reviews in 82 regions and counties, the MPP for Huron-Bruce is quick to point out that her riding is not part of this process.

Lisa Thompson said the reviews are designed to find efficiencies in how certain municipalities operate.

"What’s going well, and what can we be supporting in the spirit of doing something differently, so that we can realize efficiencies and make dollars really count when they need to be invested primarily in infrastructure and community priorities," she said.

Thompson said despite concerns about potential future amalgamations, that topic hasn’t been brought up or discussed in regards to her riding whatsoever.

"Later on in February, Minister Steve Clark, as well as Minister Lisa MacLeod, will be coming to Huron-Bruce and meeting specifically with our councils and we’re going to be talking about the path forward. Not only from a municipal affairs and housing perspective, but also from social services."

Thompson says another focus will be on asset management plans, which must be completed by all municipalities by 2024.
