Minto opts in for cannabis retail outlets

With just hours to go before the deadline, Minto has decided to allow the retail sale of cannabis in the municipality.

Prior to the recorded vote, most councillors said they were torn by the decision which has stirred a record amount of public interest.

The voted was 4-3 in favour of retail sales, with the three dissenting votes coming from Councillors Jean Anderson, Judy Dirksen and Mark MacKenzie.

Mayor George Bridge, who voted in favour of retail sales, said cannabis is a legal product in Canada now and Minto should not miss out on the provincial money that will come with opting in.
