South Huron hoping to attract casino to Grand Bend area

The Municipality of South Huron is looking into the possibility of bringing a casino to the Grand Bend area.

CAO Dan Best said they've had preliminary discussions with Gateway Entertainment, and further talks are planned.

Best said the Grand Bend area attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year. He adds the area already has amenities like Dark Horse Winery, the Huron Country Playhouse, and the Grand Bend Speedway, so a casino would be a good fit. They're also hoping to attract another hotel and more restaurants.

Best said they feel the casino would promote the visitors' experience and help them grow their regional tourism economy.

They are working with the model that Gateway is currently engaged in with Chatham-Kent, which includes public consultation.
