Royals appeal forfeit putting WOAA "AA" playoffs on hold

The WOAA "AA" senior hockey playoffs are being suspended a week while the league hears an appeal from Tavistock over a forfeited win.

According to Saugeen Shores Winterhawks President Gord Lamont, who is quoted in a statement posted to that team's website, earlier this month a Royals player was given a roughing major during a game in Petrolia and suspended. Despite the suspension, Lamont's statement says the player was dressed for Tavistock's next two games including a win against Milverton. When the league found out, they declared the win forfeit.

Now Tavistock is appealing and, according to the Clinton Radars twitter feed, a successful appeal could change all the playoff match-ups.

It's unknown at this point if the "A" playoffs between Elora-Lucknow and Milverton-Shallow Lake are also affected. A tweet from the Elora Rocks suggests there is a chance a successful appeal could alter home ice for at least one of those series.

A decision on the Royals appeal is expected on Friday. The Radars say the playoffs will instead start February 8th. As it stands now, Clinton and Tavistock are set to face each other in the first round of the playoffs.
