Slight increase in local jobless rate in January

The local unemployment rate increased slightly in January.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board has reported that the unemployment rate for the Stratford-to-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region rose by 0.8 percentage points in January. It sitting at a level of 4.5 per cent.

The provincial unemployment rate is 5.2 per cent.

Employment decreased by 5,000 in the region, with losses in both full-time and part-time positions.

The greatest losses were in construction and agriculture, which were partially offset by gains in manufacturing and utilities.

Grey County will be hosting a regional job fair at Bayshore Community Centre on February 21 to help local employers find qualified workers they need to fill vacancies and grow their businesses.
