The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation is looking for volunteers to join this year's Coastal Watchers Citizen Science Monitoring Program.
Coastal Technologist Tineasha Brenot said the volunteers are given a short training course that gives them the tools they need to collect the data accurately.
Coastal Watchers are asked to walk along a designated section of the shoreline once a week and collect and record data. They collect information on wind speed and temperature and report on things like plastic pollution and invasive species that are washing up along the shoreline.
"They submit these observations to us at the Coastal Centre and it gives us a chance to really observe the shoreline from a different perspective. So our Coast Watchers are the eyes and ears of the coast," stated Brenot.
