Exeter students make donation to Jones Bridge project

Students from South Huron District High School in Exeter have raised over $1,600 for the pedestrian bridge on the South Huron Trail Project.

Tim Cumming, a spokesperson with the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, said the school's Athletic Council, along with support from the students and local businesses, presented the cheque to the Jones Bridge Committee.

The students held a number of fund-raisers, including puck shoot-out competition and selling tickets for raffle baskets.

One of the most popular was a voluntary buy-out that allowed them to skip classes to watch the school hockey teams play, in exchange for a donation.

Cumming said they still have to install stairs and decks and finish connecting the bridge to the trail, and donations are still coming in.
