OPP now policing Wingham

The Ontario Provincial Police have now taken over policing from the Wingham Police Service.

The Municipality of North Huron has decided to disband Wingham Police Service and receive policing services from Huron County OPP.

The transition took effect on Thursday at 12 p.m.

Huron County OPP will provide policing services from the Wingham satellite OPP Detachment at 30 Bristol Terrace.

People who need to contact the OPP should continue to use 911 for any emergency. For immediate 24/7 assistance, or to report an incident (non-emergency), call 1-888-310-1122. For administrative matters during business hours, call 519-524-8314.

All officers with the Wingham force were hired by the Ontario Provincial Police, except for Chief Tim Poole, who is retiring.
