2017 IPM funds continue to make community impact

The chair of the 2017 International Plowing Match was distributing cheques in South Huron on Thursday.

The first stop for Jacquie Bishop was at Jessica's House at the south end of Exeter, where she presented a cheque for $20,000.

After that, she moved a little further down Highway 4, to Crediton and the Huron County Food Distribution Centre.

“The $20,000 will be so that they can purchase a van to deliver volunteers and food to the residents in Huron County that need it,” said Bishop.

Bishop said, altogether, they will have distributed half a million dollars from the 2017 IPM to different organizations in Huron County. She says that includes a $250,000 scholarship that will provide funding for young people over the next 25 years that are going off to college, university, trade school, apprentice school and coming back to Huron County.

Bishop said an International Plowing Match is a major event, but she continues to be surprised at how long the ripple effects last. She said she still runs into to people who have souvenirs of the 2017 Match or clothing or just favourite memories from the Match.

Bishop said the money is just about all distributed now and the reign of the first-ever woman chair of the International Plowing Match will be over.
