Local winemaker uncorks new brands

The winemaker for Maelstrom Winery in Seaforth says they're pleased with some of the things they've been doing with a few of their newer wines.

Brian Landsborough says they've been able to get some barrels that had been used to age bourbon and they've aged some of their new hydrids in the bourbon barrels.

He says the hydrids are new to this area and they wanted to showcase them and wanted to use the bourbon barrels to showcase what can be done in Huron County.

He says the result was increased flavour and a little deeper texture.

"We actually aged some of our Chardonnay in brandy barrels and that brought out a really nice creamy, buttery note," said Landsborough.

They now have four new varieties, three of them aged in the bourbon barrels and then the Chardonnay in the brandy barrels.
