Lobb unhappy with new Canada Food Guide

The MP for Huron-Bruce has some concerns with the new Canada Food Guide.

Speaking at Friday's Huron Federation of Agriculture MP /MPP Local Politician Forum in Clinton, Ben Lobb said many of the people he's spoken with share his belief that the Food Guide should focus on products that are grown in Canada and incorporate them into a food guide that provides safe and healthy meals for Canadian families.

He added any other products that would be required for a healthy diet, but not grown in Canada, could be imported.

Lobb said there are many skeptics, including himself, who believe the Food Guide was close to being finished before the consultations started, and that process was only done to make people believe they were actually listening.

Specifically, the new food guide suggests eating more vegetables and fruits, choosing whole grains, and eating "protein foods." When picking proteins, the food guide suggests eating plant-based proteins like legumes, beans, and tofu more often than those from animal sources, like dairy, eggs, meat and fish.
