Serious collision in Owen Sound sends one to hospital

One person was taken to the hospital after a dramatic crash in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service, Fire and Emergency Services responded to a collision at 2nd Avenue East and 8th Street East at approximately 9:40 a.m.

Owen Sound Police allege a Nissan pick up collided with a westbound Mazda at the intersection, and the force of the impact caused the truck to flip onto its side and slide across the pavement to the southwest sidewalk.

The driver of the pickup truck ended up trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by Fire Fighters. He was subsequently transported to the hospital by Paramedics. The driver of the truck was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and later released.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the intersection is now open.

The 38-year-old male driver of the pickup truck has been charged with failing to stop for a red light, in contravention of Highway Traffic Act.
