Home destroyed by fire near Meaford

An early-morning fire near Meaford destroyed a home and its contents.

Fire departments from Meaford, Chatsworth and the Inter-Township responded to the blaze around 1:40 a.m. on Thursday along the 1st Concession in the Municipality of Meaford.

The lone occupant of the home and two pets got out safely before the fire consumed the house.

The 53-year old woman was treated for smoke inhalation by Grey County Paramedic Services at the scene and released.

It's believed the fire started in the garage, and the cause is not considered suspicious.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
