Unique design approved for new Bayfield bridge

The Bluewater councillor for Bayfield says the new bridge over the Bayfield River conforms to the wishes of Bayfield residents.

Bill Whetstone said from what he's seen of the design, the result is going to be a truly unique bridge at the north end of Bayfield.

"The design is an arch design with a cantilever walkway, basically, it'll stick out over the edge of the bridge, basically over the river, which is very unique," he said. "They've also taken into consideration a potential path underneath to cross the road."

They are also widening the sidewalk from the Marina to Short Hill Road at the request of the municipality.

Whetstone said the only construction this year will be preparation for the road leading up to the temporary bridge on the west side of the existing bridge.

Construction is expected to start next year and last for about two years.
