Check restrictions on burning yard waste

Huron County fire chiefs are reminding residents to check on open-air burn restrictions before starting fires or burning brush.

Huron County Fire Coordinator Shawn Edwards said as people work on their spring outdoor cleanup, many decide to burn the debris.

He said cleaning up debris is a good idea to limit flammable vegetation but you need to do it safely to prevent property damage and increased risk of a grass fire.

A permit may be required with specific conditions for burning and can vary by municipality. Contact your local fire department or municipal office for details specific to your municipality.
