A Toronto woman who was convicted of trafficking fentanyl in Hanover has been sentenced.
Saundra MacNeil entered a pharmacy in Hanover in December of 2017 with a forged Transdermal Fentanyl Patch prescription. She was able to fraudulently obtain a large quantity of fentanyl before leaving the pharmacy. The fentanyl was never recovered.
MacNeil pleaded guilty to several charges including possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, failure to comply with a recognizance, and uttering a forged document. She has now been sentenced to a two-year concurrent jail term.
MacNeil is charged with similar offences in other jurisdictions that remain before the courts.
The Hanover Police Service is reminding residents that given the current state of opioid overdoses and deaths, offences such as these are treated very seriously.
Fentanyl is a powerful narcotic and even a small amount can cause injury or death.
