Howick wants approval from Huron County to allow ATVs on certain roads

Howick Township has asked Huron County council for permission to allow ATVs on certain county roads that run through the township.

Reeve Doug Harding said ATVs are currently only allowed on township roads, but surrounding municipalities allow them.

"The one request we had was people to get out of Howick to get into South Bruce and then they can get all the way to Port Elgin and even farther north if they want," he said.

To do that legally now, they have to trailer their ATVs through Howick.

Harding added other councillors have told him there are economic benefits to municipalities that allow ATVs and he's been told ATV groups are also very good about policing themselves.

County staff are preparing a report to bring back to county council.
