Goderich airport could be a "financial burden"

The town of Goderich is in the process of putting together an economic development team, and the town's C-A-O hopes that the future of the airport is high on the agenda.

Larry McCabe says the biggest concerns of council relate to the financial burden of the airport on the ratepayers of Goderich.

Councillors say the airport is more of a county asset but the annual operating loss is covered by Goderich.

McCabe also points out the airport is actually located in a neighbouring municipality, so any property taxes go to the other municipality and not to Goderich.

McCabe is hoping the economic development team will also take a long-term look at what kind of investment would be required to generate more revenue at the airport.
