Key piece of South Huron Trail now open

The Jones Bridge on the South Huron Trail in Exeter is officially open.

Project Supervisor Kate Monk said their main goal was to make sure that people could safely cross over the river without walking on Morrison Line and deal with the traffic there.

Monk said the South Huron Trail is well used.

"In a year, it would be around 50,000 or so. There are some people that walk the trail diligently every day, some on weekends and some a few times a year.  But the whole South Huron Trail has become an important part of people's lives in South Huron, and visitors and tourists too," she said.

They have reached their fund-raising target for the capital part of the project, but Monk said they will still have to count on donations for the ongoing maintenance of the trail.
