Officer assaulted after Grand Bend traffic stop

A man from Grand Bend is facing criminal charges following an altercation with police early Sunday morning.

OPP officers stopped a vehicle on the Main Street in Grand Bend around 4 a.m. on Sunday. The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of unlawful narcotics.

His passenger is alleged to have assaulted one of the officers and then fled on foot. After a short foot chase, the passenger was arrested.

He was identified as a 31-year-old from Grand Bend. Charges against him include possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and breach of probation.

The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old Exeter man, has been charged with possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
