Tavistock prepares for world championship

The World Championship for an iconic table game will take place this weekend in Tavistock.

The 21st Annual World Crokinole Championship begins Saturday morning at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre. Over 100 circular boards will be set up and feature over 500 singles and doubles players contending for titles.

Each Canadian province has been represented in the tournament. Promotions Coordinator Nathan Walsh said there is even a group travelling from Prince Edward Island this year.

"There's various areas in Ontario, particularly rural areas, with a lot of interest in crokinole," said Walsh. "The interest has survived in certain areas of Ontario, and the Huron-Perth area is the hotbed of crokinole action".

Doubles competitions take place in the morning, followed by the Singles tournaments throughout Saturday afternoon. The Championship Rounds will begin at 7 p.m.
