PRIDE flag: Minto says yes, Southgate says no

Minto will host its first PRIDE celebration on Saturday, July 13 at the Palmerston Lions Heritage Park.

Manager of Economic Development Belinda Wick-Graham says the event -- to be known as Pride in the Park -- is a joint effort by the Minto PRIDE Committee and the municipality. It will include a free barbecue, face-painting and family-friendly events.

There will be a Pride March through the park at 5 p.m. on July 13.

Meanwhile, Southgate has decided it will only fly the Canadian and Southgate flags on municipal property.

Council voted down a motion to take a look at erecting a third flag pole at the municipal office to serve as a “community flag pole”.

The discussion came following a recent request from Grey Bruce PRIDE to fly a flag to mark PRIDE Month.
