Huron County to update cycling routes guide

Huron County's staff representative on the Cycling Advisory Committee says they're currently working on an updated cycling routes guide.

Jenn Burns said they also want to monitor how many people are using the stretch of paved shoulders on the road that runs from the top of the hill in Saltford to Benmiller.

Burns said they've had a lot of positive feedback on the stretch of shoulder they paved a few years ago that runs from the top of the hill in Saltford to Benmiller and now they want to try and quantify the numbers

“This coming summer we'll be putting up some counters to see, kind of, how the traffic of cyclists and pedestrians, hopefully, if we can capture those numbers, had increased since the shoulder was installed," she said.

Burns said they've had lots of positive feedback but now they want to confirm numbers and then look at expanding the project

“We're definitely looking at where there could be linkages made for shorter sections of paved shoulders, so where cyclists could get off busier roads and on to some of our quieter, lower traffic volume roads," she said.
