Maitland Valley Conservation issues flood watch for Port Albert

A flood watch is in effect for part of the Nine Mile River.

The Maitland Valley Conservation said debris is causing problems at the mouth of the Nine Mile River at Port Albert.

An accumulation of material has built up there and is causing flooding in the area of Apple Lane.

The Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is arranging for a work permit from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to dredge the mouth of the river to alleviate the flood conditions.  If that work doesn't go ahead, flood conditions would persist for the foreseeable future.

Residents are reminded that it is dangerous to attempt to drive or walk through floodwaters. Children and pets should be kept well away from the flooded area.
