Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby Starts Saturday

The Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby is underway in Lake Huron.

The Lake Huron Fishing Club has been organizing the derby since 2003.

Participants can start trying to hook the big one, and the contest continues until noon on August 11.

There are weigh stations in Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Wiarton and Pike Bay.

Last year, a 23-pound chinook took top prize in the Salmon category, while a 26.8-pound lake trout was tops in that category.

It costs $35 to enter or $80 for a family.
