Cyclist killed Sunday near Meaford

A Meaford man has been charged with impaired driving causing death.

The charge was laid after a collision early Sunday morning involving an SUV and a cyclist.

The incident happened on 7th Line, between Highway 26 and Grey Road 12 in Meaford at around 1:20 a.m. Sunday.

A 24-year-old male cyclist was pronounced dead in hospital after being hit by the SUV. The driver of the SUV was arrested at the scene.

The 35-year-old Meaford man has been released on a recognizance, with a court date of August 15 in Owen Sound.

The name of the cyclist has not been released.

Grey-Bruce OPP continue to investigate.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
