Southgate council examines speed limit in Dundalk

Southgate council is looking at reducing the speed limit on all streets in Dundalk from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.

The municipality has concerns about speeders endangering pedestrians and horse and buggy traffic.

There is a lot of extra heavy truck traffic in Dundalk with the boom in new development.

A recent survey of traffic showed 10 per cent of drivers were travelling faster than 80 km/h on a street posted at 50 km/h.

Council will decide on the speed reduction at its September meeting.
