Grey Bruce medical officer looks for support to modernize local public health

The Grey Bruce medical officer of health says the health unit is ready to successfully move ahead with plans to modernize Ontario Public health.

Dr. Ian Arra said with the provincial consultations taking place this month, partner municipalities need to emphasize the connection between communities and public health.

Arra said the local organization is a champion for rural public health, adding there are complex issues specific to rural and small urban communities. He said those are addressed through an array of existing strategies.

He added it is important the province hears a rural perspective from the Centre of Excellence in Rural Public Health., which could ensure the continued delivery of service while meeting budget expectations.

Arra said a fiscally responsible, multi-disciplinary team with industry-leading skills, experience and knowledge provides value for the money.
