Owen Sound hosts 44th annual Summerfolk

The 44th annual Summerfolk Arts and Crafts Festival opens Friday afternoon in Owen Sound.

About 50 acts are on the bill during the weekend, including traditional folk through jazz, hip hop and indigenous singing.

Headlining this year is singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards and Garnet Rogers.  Rogers is the brother of the late, legendary Stan Rogers.

Festival coordinator Roxane Davidson said Stan Rogers played at Summerfolk during the festival's early days so it's special to have Garnet back.

"Garnet Rogers is from the Rogers family which goes with the history of all folk festivals across Canada so with Stan being part of Summerfolk itself it only makes it just part of the family to have Garnet still coming to see us," said Davidson.

Summerfolk has something for everyone, including great food, a children's area and handmade goods for sale by Canadian artisans.

Gates open on Summerfolk at Kelso Beach Park in Owen Sound at 4:30 p.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. Sunday.
