UPDATE: Perth Line 86 re-opens following collision

One person is charged after a transport truck driver was forced to swerve to avoid a head-on crash and the rig overturned in the ditch west of Listowel.

OPP and Perth County Paramedic Services responded to the scene on Perth Line 86 near Road 172 at 8:20 a.m on Tuesday.

An investigation determined that a westbound tractor-trailer driver had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision with a car that was eastbound on Perth Line 86. The tractor-trailer overturned in the north ditch.    The truck driver was not hurt.

The driver of the car was transported to hospital and was later released.  He has since been charged with careless driving.

Perth Line 86 was closed for more than eight hours while crews removed the transport from the ditch.

OPP officers also charged nine drivers for ignoring the Road Closed signs, which were erected to allow police and tow-truck operators to work in a safe environment.
