South Bruce Peninsula man held in custody on weapons charges

A total of 12 charges have been laid against a South Bruce Peninsula man, following a police standoff near Sauble Beach earlier this week.

Police were called to a residence on Bruce Road 8 just before midnight Monday for what they called a "high-risk situation involving a weapon."

It took specially trained OPP negotiators almost seven hours to convince the man to surrender and come out of the house.

James Walker, 37, was arrested without incident at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

He appeared in Owen Sound Ontario Court of Justice Wednesday and was held over for a continuation on Thursday.

Walker is facing charges that include unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of ammunition, two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, and four counts of breach of probation.
