Bayfield River bridge goes out to tender

The final design for the new bridge over the Bayfield River has been completed.

Bayfield ward Councillor Bill Whetstone said the project went to tender on August 14 with the expectation that it will be awarded by the end of September. During the fall and winter, the contractor will start the grading process for the temporary bridge to be put in place.

The target for the completion of the new permanent bridge is the end of 2021.

"It's important that when visitors or tourists are coming through, first impressions are key, so the bridge is now going to look spectacular, the south pier has been re-done," said Whetstone. "We've got some benches on there now, making it much more attractive."

He added there may be some inconvenience over the next year or so, but he's confident people will feel the end result will be worth it.
