Bluewater School Board prepared for contract talks

Labour strife in our schools is nothing new to the Bluewater District School Board's Director of Education.

Alana Murray said there are many groups negotiating separately with the province, among them unions for secondary teachers, elementary teachers, and Catholic teachers, as well as staff unions.

Most of them are a long way from resolving issues. Murray said it's a complicated process and she has seen it all before in her 38 years as an educator.

"Because every four or three or two or five years we go through this process but what's really important is we come out of this process because the years in between are important. That's what's in the best interests of kids and I've done this many many times," said Murray.

The secondary school teachers have been without a contract since August 31st.

The terms of the previous contract remain in effect until a new deal is reached.

Murray said she expects it will be months before it's all resolved.
