Former Southampton Mayor remembered

A prominent Southampton doctor has died in Saugeen Shores.

Dr. Donald David Mercer died at the age of 86 at Saugeen Memorial Hospital.

In 1960, Dr. Mercer and his wife Sybil came to Southampton to take over the practice of Dr. Allan Matheson, raising their three children on High Street.

Mercer would make weekly visits to the Saugeen First Nation Health office and he often made house calls.

He also served as a coroner for 10 years.  He was also mayor of Southampton for two years and on the town council for three years.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
