New credit card scam surfaces in Owen Sound

The Owen Sound Police Service is investigating a new fraud scam.

Police were contacted by a local hotel Wednesday, which reported that someone was targeting people staying in hotel rooms.

Fraudsters were calling and asking for room numbers, and after being transferred would tell the occupants that they were overbilled.

The fraudsters would then ask the occupant to provide their credit card number for a refund.

Police said it appears no one fell for the scam, but they are making these attempts public to prevent anyone from falling victim to this new angle in the future.
