Senior suffers injuries in Collingwood purse snatch

An elderly woman from Collingwood remains in hospital after being knocked down by a cyclist and having her purse stolen.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, OPP officers were called to Market Lane in Collingwood for reports of an injured 86 year-old woman.

Investigators found that the woman had been walking along Market Lane when she was knocked to the ground by an unknown person, who then stole the victim's purse, and left the scene on a bicycle.

The woman was taken to hospital with life-altering injuries.

The investigation is being conducted by the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services.

OPP officers are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the person in the photo which would assist the investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
