Second degree murder charge laid in death of senior

A Collingwood man is now charged with second degree murder in the death of an elderly woman who succumbed to injuries she suffered during a robbery.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced the charge against Caleb Burgler, 30, on Monday and said he is additionally charged with robbery with violence.

The charges were laid after 86-year-old Marion Fenwick of Collingwood, who was walking along Market Lane in Collingwood, was assaulted and knocked to the ground during a robbery. Fenwick suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital.

Burgler is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie at a later date.

The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP Crime Unit is continuing to conduct an investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact police at (705) 445-4321 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
