The expansion of the Brockton Child Care Centre has been approved and was announced at council last night.
Councilor Chris Oberle, who sits on the board, said the provincial government approved the expansion and it will be a great addition to the community, adding two new classrooms.
"So that works out to approximately 39 additional spots at the centre, which will be really good for the volume number because right now we do have a pretty extensive waiting list for childcare in the area," said Oberle.
The expansion will cost roughly $1 million, and Oberle said the province will be covering that cost, while Brockton will assume the cost of additional staffing, furniture and supply needs for the Brockton Child Care Centre addition.
"The additional cost will be staffing for the municipality, and putting the actual physical items inside once it's built. So definitely providing that support for communities and especially young families that are looking for childcare, having that available to them in the municipality definitely helps," said Oberle.
Oberle said construction should be getting underway in April of next year with the goal of having the additional space at the Brockton Childcare Centre ready for the September school year.
