Minto to consider flood-control spending for Harriston

Minto is looking at spending a whopping $40 million over the next 20 years to solve flooding problems in the town of Harriston.

Harriston has experienced serious flooding from the Maitland River 15 times in the past 100 years.

Planner Bill White with Triton Engineering told Minto council that it will have to get financial help from the provincial and federal government for about 70 per cent of the project if it has any hope of going ahead.

Council will get more information and make a decision on the project in early 2020.

Harriston suffered a costly one-in-a-hundred years flood in 2017, and a one-in-10 year flood in 2018.
