Another high school science class has taken up the fight against single-use plastics.
Kristen Durnan's Grade 9 science class at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton heard about the success of the Grade 9 Eco Exeter team and wanted to get involved.
"So this year we went to South Huron and we spoke with them and some other high schools were there too, St. Marys and Mitchell, and we decided we wanted to take something on," she said. "We had gone to a climate change forum in Blyth as well and we thought, you know what, we need to take some action.”
Durnan said they're putting some action plans together now and should be ready to start implementing them very soon.
Vica Claussen is one of the Grade 9 science students who want to work to eliminate single-use plastics. She said seeing what was being done by the Eco Exeter group and other high school students and then attending a climate change forum in Bltyh encouraged her to get involved.
"We're trying to make an impact worldwide and locally," said Claussen. "Our whole class has been intrigued and we've all wanted to start something.”
Another student, Dakota Pennington-Vock, said she hopes they can make a difference by getting rid of most single-use plastics.
"We started talking about it in science class and that's kind of what got me thinking about it and Greta Thunberg, she started making me think more about it," she said.
