Application for building permit submitted for new hospital in Markdale

Grey Bruce Health Services confirms they have submitted an application to the Municipality of Grey Highlands to finally construct a new hospital in Markdale.

The estimated cost of the build is just over $65M. In an email to CKNX, Health Services Communications Coordinator Nicole Schmidt says they are aiming to begin construction by late fall of 2020, and the hospital is expected to take approximately two years to build.

The new facility will include a 24/7 Emergency Room with three exam rooms, four patient rooms, outpatient services, a physiotherapy area and ambulatory care, among a slew of other features. Grey Highlands Mayor Paul McQueen says he's excited, and feels a trip by Premier Doug Ford while he was on his way back to Toronto after attending the Wiarton Willie celebration earlier this year was "a positive signal that were were moving closer to a new hospital".
